Common questions

Q1: Do I need an account to use Tavern Studio?

No Tavern Studio website account is required for the local client workflow. Third-party model providers may require their own accounts and API keys.

Q2: Why does my API connection keep failing?

Check these items first:

  1. Base URL spelling and /v1 path.
  2. API key validity.
  3. Account balance or quota.
  4. Network access and proxy settings.
  5. Whether the selected model supports chat generation.

Q3: Why does my character card import fail?

The image may not contain character metadata, or metadata may have been removed by image compression. Use the original PNG card file when possible.

Q4: Why does an encrypted card fail to decrypt?

The password may be wrong, or the file may be damaged. Try the original file and confirm the password.

Q5: Why does my world book not trigger?

Check that the entry is enabled, the trigger key appears in the recent conversation, and the world book is bound to the current chat.

Q6: Why does a local GGUF model crash?

The model may exceed available memory. Lower GPU Layers, reduce context size, close other GPU-heavy apps, or choose a smaller model.

Q7: Why did my preset changes not affect the chat?

The chat may have a chat-level preset override. Open Chat Settings and verify which preset is active.

Q8: Where is local data stored?

The exact location depends on platform and version. On Windows it is commonly under the user AppData area. Portable modes may store data near the app directory.
