Interface Overview
Tavern Studio is organized around the actions users need most: managing characters, editing world settings, importing assets, adjusting presets, configuring models, and chatting.
Who this is for
- New users who want to know where the main actions are.
- Users looking for import, world book, preset, or model settings.
- Users who want to understand desktop split view and Chat Settings.
What you will learn
- Where to find the main feature entries.
- How to switch between core areas.
- How the character library and chat window work together on larger screens.
- How to access Chat Settings.
Main feature entries
The common entry points are available near the bottom of the app:
- Characters: browse and manage character cards. Open a character to start chatting.
- World Book: create and manage World Book / World Info entries for lore and background rules.
- Import (+): import character cards, JSON assets, world books, presets, and local GGUF model files.
- Presets: manage generation settings and prompt configuration.
- Settings: configure APIs, local models, language, backups, and network settings.
When you are inside a chat, the bottom area focuses on message input and chat actions such as sending, stopping, and continuing generation.
When you select assets in a list, the interface shows actions relevant to that selection, such as delete, export, copy, or select all.
Touchpad swipe navigation
If you are in chat or cannot see the main entries directly, use a two-finger horizontal swipe on a touchpad to move between core areas such as Characters, World Book, Presets, and Settings.
Split view and character library
On larger screens, Tavern Studio can show the character library and chat window side by side.
- Character library: character cards are displayed as visual cards instead of a plain list.
- Side-by-side workflow: you can keep the character list visible while chatting, making it easier to switch between characters or sessions.
Chat window and Chat Settings
When you open a character chat, you may need to adjust settings such as world book binding, preset selection, or model behavior. These options are available in Chat Settings.
- On wider screens, Chat Settings can appear next to the chat.
- On narrower screens, use the available swipe or navigation behavior to access Chat Settings without crowding the message view.
FAQ
Why do I not see the import or main feature entries?
You may be inside a chat, where the bottom area is focused on message input. Use the back button or touchpad swipe to return to the main feature areas.
Can Chat Settings stay visible?
On wide screens, Chat Settings can remain visible next to the chat. On narrow screens, it is shown through a responsive layout so the chat text remains readable.
Why does drag-and-drop import not respond?
Make sure you are dropping files into a supported app area. Some dialogs or unsupported surfaces may not accept dropped files.
